Donations, items, and the whole lot of it.. - August 6th, 2007

Okay, I decided to post this here because its more of a broad topic than merely a suggestion. I've noticed that certain items were removed off of certain bosses' drop tables and added to the donator vendors in Booty Bay.

I'm all for people who choose to donate, and I agree that this server isn't going to run itself. However I feel a little TOO much importance is being placed on donations, and not enough on those of us who play on this server and actually give it some effort. I think I remember it being said that the initial contribution target was several hundred dollars, and then we ended up bring in almost $3000, and thats awesome. However I don't think that those of us who do not donate should be penalized by having items taken away from us merely for the fact that we haven't donated.

Netherdrakes fall into this category. Seems the quest line was removed and you can only get this mount by donating now. Alot of us play this server because its awesome, and we appreciate it, and while we may not be able to monetarily contribute, we give this server a steady dedicated playerbase. We give the server a reason to donate, because without the playerbase people would create an account, log in, and see that there's only about 10 people online and you somewhat lose that ambience of what an MMORPG is supposed to be.

I killed High Astromancer Solarian about 15 times in Tempest Keep before someone told me that [Heartrazor], a dagger that she normally would drop, was removed from her loot tables and placed on a special donator vendor in Booty Bay. That was a sad moment. I'm proud of my characters, and proud of the fact that I've earned every piece of gear that they have.

I'm not bashing those people who donate and have recieved things in return, more power to you, but I don't think that this process should leave the rest of us at a disadvantage because of it. We are, in a way, being penalized for NOT donating. I chose NOT to join tomorrows event because I saw that Sobek signed up. His gear that he purchased provides more than an unfair advantage in situations like this. Should we eventually implement a workable PVP system to the server, those who have donated and received items will reign supreme over the rest of us who have worked hard for our gear.

I guess what I'm asking for is some sense of equality here. Perhaps tone down the donation items abit? You would still have much of an incentive. Instead of having to run instances multiple times to get your items you could donate and get them, but they would still be the same items that your NON-donating friends would have. Keeping the playing field even is all that I'm asking. Allow donators to purchase T5/T6 with thier tokens, and the same weapons that would drop in BT and so forth, instead of letting them purchase weapons that have almost 20 dps more than the best normally acquired weapons have on them. Allow donators to purchase instant level 255 with thier tokens as well. Keep the playing field even though, so when it comes to PVP and events, the rest of us aren't deterred by the uneven advantages of our opponents.

I apologize in advance if this post offends anyone, it is not meant to, rather make a positive suggestion for the better of the server as a whole. I'm not trying to place blame or fault on anyone, or make anyone feel better or worse for their stance on this issue. I'm merely expressing my opinion in the hopes that it can constructively enhance the server. Thank you all for everything you do, the players, the donators, the administrators, GM's, and most of all Kingpin.

there are no weapons/items removed from bosses specifically for donator vendor, are you confusing token vendor with the coin vendor? tokens are gotten via GM events (not too many of those atm) and via trading with other players/dueling with other players.
Nether drake quest was never specifically removed, I dont remember being handed a database by blizz to run my server so it didnt come with every quest/questline/item/event preprogrammed. these things take time to code in and I have always said to everyone I will code a regular drake quest and you will be able to upgrade your drake to swift via comp tokens, or circumvent the whole procedure via coins.
Maybe you should check this "special donator vendor" rather than relying on some idiot who doesn't know his ass from his elbow. if the dagger isnt dropping maybe the drop rate is low? if the dagger isnt on the mob bug report it OR back to point 1, its not in the db? rest of your post is repetitive and again is without you having done any research whatsoever so im going to stop responding now.

I suggest you check out the donator vendor in BB. there is ONLY ONE. darien steele, it doesn't contain any items found in game.

Well I guess I just came off wrong, and my entire post must have gotten sidetracked somewhere, and I apologize. The only information that I have to go off of is what other people tell me. Some of the items I've tried to acquire, I've been told by GM's they are not in the database, and that I can understand. Also, you are correct in that there is a difference in the vendors at BB, but then again that comes back to my point about people with donator gear reigning over those who don't in events, which lets them...

I give up, I apologize if I offended you or came off as ignorant, was not my intention. You can delete this thread, I'll carry my campaign no further.

lol thats not the point of this forum, I dont delete things just based on the fact that I disagree with them. Yes the donator sets are better, but we try out best to make sure they are somewhat better than the current technology in the realm, i.e. their stats should be somewhat better than T5 at the moment and once T6 is released to the public then somewhat better than T6. their graphics on the other hand are just graphical perks that shouldnt mean much when it comes to anything other than looks. you dont have only the word of others to go by, as I have said before you can just walk over to bootybay and find out what the vendor offers. If any of the donator items are OP you are more than welcome to suggest that it be balanced. the fact is I dont have the money to shell out 600+ every month on the servers, so the donators do keep this server online, and if they keep it online then what can I say but that they deserve to get something to show for it. not everyone agrees with that and thats fine. feel free to continue this discussion as Im sure many others feel the same way, so maybe they can get some questiosns answered and also maybe we cna come out with something better for the whole community.

Ding I chime in. Now I would like to know what GM's are telling you that items are not in DB. UNless someone coemes on as a Admin, mod or gm next to there name why do you believe them. KP and scarred do look at items in loot tables and even add if they see missing. Help the srever out and post ID's of the items you feel are missing and I am sure of them will check it out and let you know what has happned.

On the other end Pfft even before Donators Scarred was very difficult to kill then. He knows how to play his chracter and utilize many aspects of the game.

With the donator Items It did come off a bit Well they bought there items I earned mine. Well As kp said becasue of them we have better equipment and services. Realize that this server has been up for over a year and we just started Donators what 3 months ago and they really are not that much more then regular stuff you can equip ingame. If you ask some of the more fanatic they still mix some of there other gear with doantors.

I understand what he's saying about donor items being "overpowered" and it may seem that way. But as a donor, I've gotten my ass pwn'd by many 'a non-donor. So if you know how to play your character and work for the good gear the little bonus that us donors get from our gear wont make much a difference. When you're talking the difference of 20 damage when its in a scale of hundreds is it really that much of a difference? And if you feel so overpowered why don't you get some money and donate? If you think of it as spending $50 on gear and stay with WoW, that's the price you'd pay for a new video game (or 4 months on a blizz server) so really you aren't losing much anyway.
