The purpose of this thread is to centralize information and guides, we will update this thread when we can, but the Wiki is still the best place to look.

Signing Up & Playing on Server!

If you would like to signup to play on The Den server then you should do the following.

1. Goto KingPin's Forum - Register and make an account, make sure to pay attention to the whole form, there are 3 boxes there that ask for info regarding the Den, you must fill them out to make an account for the den.
2. Go to http://www.kpsforum.com/den-general-...en-loader.html and get and install the latest version available in the first post
3. Now make sure you client is version 2.2.0. Then run the loader, it might need to update itself (its auto update but it does ask your permission first)login with the account you created in step 1.

More Than One Account.

Currently, we only allow people to have one account per IP. This unfortunetly sometimes means friends or family that share the same ip with you cannot create an account for the server.

If you would like another account you should visit the support system and do the following.

1. Create a new post and mark the post as private <- Must Do This!
2. In the post you should include the Username, Password & Email of the New Account.

Abuse this feature and you won't be cautioned, it will be an immediate ban.

Donating!

As we recently upgraded our server all donations are welcome, to help pay for the server. Our system are quite costly at this time and we appreciate any and all help from our players.

We created some perks to encourage people to donate. This includes 76 Legendry Items for Donators which can be seen on the Bootybay Docks and also a "VIP Forum" where you can request changes or ask for certain things. As Donators help keep the server running we believe they should get priority.

Latest news the easy way

You know when u start the client and there is a news window on the left hand side? well you can have our news there so u can stay upto date with latest patches and ongoing features etc. In order to do that you need to edit one file in your computer, the hosts file.

Location :

e.g. C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc or C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc

File :

The file is called "HOSTS" without the quotes, no extension to it.

Howto :

XP :
  • Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
  • Click on "Notepad".
  • Click File -> Open
  • Browse to "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc" (explained above)
  • Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)"
  • Select "hosts" and click "Open"
  • Add the following info to it :

    75.126.132.115	launcher.worldofwarcraft.com
  • save and exit. Start wow and we are good to go

Vista:
  • Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
  • Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"
  • Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt

  • Browse to "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc" (explained above)

  • Select "hosts" and click "Open"
  • Add the following info to it :

SERVER RULES
We the staff, assume that you, the player, have read these rules and will adhere to them upon logging in and playing on our servers. Failure to read these rules will NOT be an excuse to break them, and you will be punished accordingly. You will be asked politely ONCE to comply with the rules in most cases, and if you do so, no punishment will occur. We also reserve the right to escalate to a second or third offense punishment in special cases where it is needed.


The following rules are subject to a 4-Step punishment system.
  • 10-15 minute mute for the first offense.
  • 60 minute mute for the second offense.
  • 60 minute jail for the third offense.
  • 7 day ban for the fourth offense.

And the player will only be able to come back on a probationary period of 30 days. If within that 30 days they need to be reprimanded again, a permanent ban will occur.

If a player feels a ban is unfair in any way, that player can appeal in a private post using the bug tracker section. This is the only way staff will review a ban. Creating a new game account to plead your case, arguing in IRC/PM or "borrowing" another players account when you are banned for any reason is not allowed, and will be cause for a permanent ban if one is not already in place. It will also get your friend's account moved to 7 day ban status and 30 day probation status.


VIOLATIONS
  1. No hacking of any kind is not permitted on this server. An immediate ban will occur with the visual confirmation from a Staff Member or a verified screen shot taken by a player.

  2. Multiple accounts are not allowed here. You are allowed one account. If you have another in your household who wishes to play, you must make a request per instructions listed here. Having more then one account is a bannable offense.

  3. PVP on The Den is limited to a few designated areas, such as the Arena areas, Battle Grounds, sanctioned duels, and special events. We also allow attacks on major city factions, but keep in mind opposing players may defend. An opposing player in a city can choose not to defend, and you cannot attack them unless they attack you. Killing a player outside of these guidelines will result in your player being jailed on the 1st offense, a 7 day ban on the 2nd offense, and a permanent ban for the 3rd offense. Players should screenshot their combat log and submit to DEN MMO SECTION should they wish to report such an attack.

  4. The Asgard Realm is not subject to these rules. On Asgard, it is FREE-FOR-ALL PVP including your own faction, anywhere, at anytime. Any "Ganks" reported from Asgard will be ignored, since no crime has been commmited. You can post them for entertainment purposes if you wish.

  5. GM ISLAND is a market place, a social area, and a Safe Haven. No PVP of any kind, including duels, is allowed there. We also request that you not cast spells or summon pets while visiting GM ISLAND. Even if a GM is not present, a verified screenshot of you doing any of these actions will result in action being taken against you.

  6. Typing in all CAPS, spamming/flooding, excessive item links or "l33t speak" will not tolerated in IRC or in-game chat. If you do so, you will be asked to stop. Also, the preferred language of the server is English, and we require you use only English in World Chat, please.

  7. There will be no set limitation on expressive words as long as they are not said in a provoking, insulting, or threatening manner. There will be absolutely no tolerance for the threatening of any other player within or out of game.

  8. There will be complete tolerance by all players regarding sex, age, race, nationality, language, political views and religion of other players. Any slandering of people based on these factors will not be tolerated and consequences for such occurrences will occur.

  9. Conversations containing suggestive themes, politics, Britney Spears, etc., will be tolerated as long as they do not offend other players, and is at the discretion of a GM online at that time to limit the conversation, or ask for the conversation to be stopped.

  10. There will be no tolerance for arguments between players; “joke” fights. These should be kept in guild conversation, in say, or in whispers, and it will not be tolerated in World Chat or on IRC.

  11. There will be no tolerance for any slander of any Staff Member or GM, nor will debating a standing rule or personal issue in World Chat be tolerated. If you feel a rule needs changing, please use the forums to state your case. All complaints regarding Staff Members will be directed to a higher level Staff Member (currently Bundy, or Vohrtechs, you can use Forum PM, IRC PM, etc.). If this is not appropriate, please use den@kpsforum.com and leave detailed information about the problem.

  12. Players will not be permitted to represent themselves as Staff Members in any way. They may ask a player bothering them directly to stop, but should then go to the first available Staff Member for assistance.

Ok, first and foremost, thanks for taking the time to come to the forums and help us improve things! Our community is what makes our server unique, and the more you use the forums to share knowledge and help each other, the better the end result for everyone.

Sometimes, server updates do strange and unexpected things. A quest or ability that has worked in the past may suddenly not work, for no apparent reason. What worked great last week may suddenly no longer function. These types of issues can usually be resolved, if we
are made aware of them. We really can't test every single quest every time there's a revision change, so you players are our best source of up to date info on what works and what doesn't.

The best way to get these issues resolved is to let everyone know, and the best tool for doing so is our very own Bug Tracker. Sure you can tell us ingame, or on IRC, but make a bugtracker post too.

This ensures all staff, including KingPin (who does not play on the server regularly) know about it, and it also helps your fellow players know what is going on.


There are also things that are what we typically call "core issues". These are things that are beyond our current ability to fix. This doesn't mean they wont ever work, it simply means that the fix/addition needs to be coded into the core itself. These issues STILL need to be reported, as we can pass that info onto the devs and make sure they know that a problem exists, or there is a demand for that spell/skill/boss/etc to be added.

You can also use the bugtracker to make suggestions for adding content to the server, or suggesting a change that you feel would benefit the playerbase. I personally can attest that these are read and considered seriously, unless the request is such that it can't be. For example "make all bosses have 12 hitpoints and drop epics plox" is probably not going to get the same attention that "add mobs to area X because there should be more" might get.

So, now that I have covered the basic use and purpose of bugtracker itself, I'd like to discuss briefly how to use it to get the best outcome possible on your particular issue.

First, do your homework. Check on Wowhead, try our armory, and make sure you actually have a true problem. Also check and see if there is an open issue for the same problem.

Example: A post regarding getting swift flight form quest for druids. Did you check to make sure you are talking to the correct npc? Do you meet the requirements for the quest to be offered? Double check these things, and make sure you havent missed the obvious. We all do sometimes, and you may save the time and trouble of checking back on a post you didn't need to make in the first place. And if the issue is already listed, post on the current issue. This helps us confirm if the problem is confined to a specific character or not.

Second, make your post as clear and as informative as possible.

Bad Example: Quest blah blah is bugged! Fix nau plox!

Good example: I cannot complete (exact quest name/wowhead or armory link). I have the items needed, and Bob the Orc refuses to talk to me, he just keeps walking around.

If we know exactly what the problem is, it increases our chances of quickly pinpointing why it does not work. It also saves time. I roll a char just to wander about and find your mystery quest, spending 15 mins or so, that 15 mins could have been spent resolving 4-5 well defined bugtraq issues since I have all the info I need in front of me. Also taking the time to provide links, and using proper sentence structure and grammar helps too. Messages that are written this way are much easier to read, and we can get thru them faster. We do understand that english isn't everyone's first language, and we don't expect perfection, but making an effort to be understood is really appreciated by everyone on staff. Also, please note which realm you are having the issue on. If it happened on Asgard, for example, note somewhere in your message that is where it happened.

Third, Don't demand, whine, or cry a river in bugtraq. Keep on the subject of what the problem is, not how much life has been made painful for you because the free server you play on isn't perfect yet.

Yea it sucks that the talent/quest doesn't work. You know what? We agree. When we play our toons, we can't use/complete it either. We know how you feel, don't type 3 paragraphs on your personal loss and suffering from a game. If you are truly upset by something that is broken, take a break and then write your post. Also, please try to keep your posts, and responses to other bugtraq posts on subject as well. Go to funtimes to be clever and witty, please. This is Serious Thread!

Since we are asking for so much from you, what can you expect from us in return?

It's only fair that the staff answer your requests in a timely manner. I can't guarantee I check forums and bugtraq everyday, but I do try to. We will try to answer as clearly and completely as possible, and will sometimes request additional info from you if needed.

We do read every bugtraq post. Keep in mind that are some issues only certain staff can deal with, some issues only KP can fix, and some issues that are "core issues" as mentioned above. We may read your post the day you write it, but it does not mean it will be fixed the same day. Due to the very nature of some of these issues, it may take a server restart, a new revision, or new code.

There also may be a possibility that we can't readily fix it, or implement your suggestion. If the devs are working on a more urgent issue, yours might not get immediate attention. It is still worth posting regardless! This is our best way to know what needs fixed, what you want from us in the future, and improve the server for you, and your fellow players.

After reviewing a plethora of gankings and other misdeeds, that we could not punish someone for, nor know if they committed it, I have taken to myself, to suggest some addons.

1:Chat Timestamp - Addons - Curse
Reason? This addon in the second's form will allow the Staff, to properly punish someone, by seeing that when they hit you, was within certain amount of time to you dieing, and if the server/local time is in the screenshot, we could conclude even better, so in short, if you want your gankers to pay, use a timestamped chatlog.

2:QuestHelper - Addons - Curse
Reason? It provides step by step help with quests.

3:Main Page - WIM
Reason? It's an IM for WoW, so now it's easier to toss around whispers.

A MUST HAVE ADDON: Bugsack!
Bug Sack - Error Frame
Description: Annoyed by those pesky error frames? In the middle of the screen and stuff...Bug sack removes that and puts it in it's "sack" so you won't see it. Its a really must have.

Description: A very very nice map addon, it makes your map smaller so you can see it and not full screen. Also, if you have gathering professions, it marks on your map the thing you gathered. Example: You gathered some herbs. It marks it. You can also make map notes.

Mik's Scrolling Battle Text - Combat Addon

What are veteran points?
VP's or Veteran Points are points awarded to each account (not character so points are shared across a whole account).

Who can get em?
Anyone can, VP's are not for donators, staff or anyone else specifically. Anyone and everyone gets them.

How do you get them?
They are added automagically to your account once a month.

How many do you get?

To be announced.

What can they be used for?
You can buy special items like pets, mounts, and some armor bits specifically made for these points

How do you buy these items?
A command like .vpadd will be made public soon

When is soon?
Soon is sometime between now and when hell freezes over.

Are these items bound to an account or can they be traded?
They are account bound.

What about people who have been playing for a while?
they are the intended audience here all points will be retroactively applied.
