This is a discussion on Beast Skinning within the The Den MMo Server forums, part of the Gaming Section category; i am supposed to be able to skin wolves winse they are beasts but they do not seem to be ...
it should say in red "requires skinning 70" or whatever if your skill is too low. Are you getting anything like that? Try skinning a sheep (you get wool).
. . . i know, thats how ive been lvling it every now and then, i am wondering why cant i skin wolves it does not even have the skinnable word, it does not work

Not sure... I got Finkle's skinner off Beast today, so I'll probably pick up skinning if it works =\
*OH BTW>>> BEAST ACTUALLY HIT ME!!!! WOOOO WOOOO!!!!*

Skinning works by multiplying the level of the beast by 5, so basically skinning is pretty well fubar'd since it only goes up to a max of 300 and the mobs get up to level 250+... 1000 > 300. =/
I think some mob listing is wrong as when you hover over a mob it should tell you things like tameable and when its dead you should see skinable but its not happening with mobs.
So are we able to raise our skinning skill higher than 450? i maxed mine out, and that means that the highest lvl mob i can skinn, is lvl 90... and that gives me medium leather, would take forever to get some thick leather, so leatherworkong gets stucked at some time, is there anything you can do about it? like a costum trainer or something, that can raise skinning to 1250 or something???
I tryed to change my MSN password to penis... But it said it was to short

sadly the only thing that would fix it would probably be to raise the caps of gathering skills (herbalism and mining can both be used on certain mobs and suffer from the same issue) to 1275 at their highest training lvl, though i doubt kp has time to do this with so many bugs popping up from the switch to wotlk, though once he has time or feels like it I'm sure kp will fix it his own way. just give him some time

Level up fishing, you get crates with thick and rugged leather in stv, and knothide in outland. so it's still possible to max leatherworking, or at least i'm thinking it is (still 227 but climbing).
Pre WOTLK, Skinning was possible in STV up to a level of 375 if you worked long enough and hard enough killing and skinning Evul Cows that went all the way up to level 75 (level x 5 = level skinning skill required to skin it).
Even so (and a great many thanks, btw, for implementing those custom cows for those of us who bothered with LWing). there was a complex system of trade-ins which saw you get a certain number of higher grade leather for trading in stacks of lower-level skins - Skinning and LWing were both mind-numbingly long and hard to level.
I've not seeked any level-75 creatures to try and further my Skinning skill past 375, but if I did, I'm pretty sure they'd not yield any kind of leather that could be of any use for WOTLK recipes.
Guess that means my neither my rogue or hunter will be making any new snazzy items any time soon whereas my smiths and engineers all have most of their new gizmos.
In a word, I'm pretty sure Skinning and LWing are going nowhere for the time being.
However, the Den Staff are quite amazing at how they manage to get things done and come up with really nifty solutions to complicated issues - just give 'em time and they'll get around to it, they always do.
