Camper stats not working? -

I have a questions about the 4 coin campers in GM Isle, I was told that the stats on them don't work. Now I was told this by someone who has custom gear so I am sure their gear is just canceling out the campers. I need to know if this is true or not before i waste coins on the campers and end up just having more bag room instead of extra stats...I ask if they are broke why not take them out>? sure its 36 slots but the 28 slots do just as good. Or even repair or fix them if possible.
