...differences are between Vista and XP? I'm getting a new notebook and have a choice between the two.

I don't know any tech lingo, so and explanation of this in laymans's terms would be appreciated.

Also, are either of these preferable for home use? I do use Microsoft office but I have access to those programs from my work PC.
