How long does it take to become proficient using SQL

Server 2005? In order to get a job. I am not a DBA. I am switching careeer. Love computers. Was thinking getting into a certification as well.

It really depends on where you're coming from. Yes, there are any number of paths including DBA, programmer, database architect and others. I've written books targetted at all of these disciplines for almost 20 years and I know there are many answers--from months to years.
