windowsxp and then shut itself off and reset over & over? the hp screen comes up it loads windows xp and i enter my user name ect everything loads and then it just resets itself before i can even open anything on it!

I had the same problem on my laptop. What has happened here is one of the system files has become corrupted or is missing completely. If you can't start it in administrative mode and system restore it then unfortunately the only way to fix the problem is to reinstall windows xp completely
(you will most likely lose everything unless you can pull off a windows repair where it just replaces the system files but thats kinda tricky). after I reinstalled xp, my laptop worked just fine.
