for a class assignment i'm supposed to type up the html code for a personal website.. if i work on it in dreamweaver will the person reading the code realize it was made in dreamweaver

Probably. Dreamweaver generated code is relatively distinctive.

That's assuming you use the Design mode though. The source editing mode is basically a glorified text editor, and that should be fine to use.

It is fine to use Dreamweaver, just remove proprietary tags in the HEAD, and check for NOTES/COMMENTS in the whole page

I think what the teacher WILL look for is structure and advanced techniques. Avoid such features as CSS or Javascript unless your teacher KNOWS you are familiar with these languages and concepts
