NO SOUND from windows application or flash videos? - December 13th, 2007

I've had this problem for a long time, and its starting to bug the BLEEP out of me.

from what i understand my windows APPLICATION sounds(for example the little beep on a error alert or the windows startup sound) are not working, and also online flash videos.

my sound WORKS from THIRD PARTY programs like windows media player. im guessing because they have their own sound codecs. Flash audio wont work because it uses the same codecs as windows application sounds

so to sum it up, my question is ...... how can i fix my windows application audio along with FLASH audio

oh and also the volume control wont show up on the taskbar even though i have "Place Volume On Taskbar" checked already. i know that all these problems are linked
